The Meadows

The Meadows has 14 single bedroom units that are all self contained and wheelchair accessible. Two units are specifically designated as handicapped and have modifications to accommodate someone in a wheelchair.

The Smithers Community Services manages the building, and the provision of hospitality services which include social and recreation activities, meals, emergency response service, and housekeeping and laundry.

Northern Health Authority is responsible for the personal care aspect of the program, and BC Housing provides funding, monitoring of the society, and standards of care.

Notice of Zoning Amendment to the C-1B zone (1117 King Street)

Feb 15 - Mar 15 2018

On Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 beginning at 6:30 pm in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, BC, Smithers Town Council will hold a public hearing to discuss proposed Bylaw 1824 (Refer to background information).

Bylaw 1824 proposes changes to the zoning regulations for the C-1B Downtown Mixed Commercial zone. Currently, the property located at 1117 King Street is the only property in the Town of Smithers zoned C-1B.

Anyone who believes they will be affected by any of the proposed changes to the C-1B zone is invited to attend the public hearing and submit comment to Council. Written submissions must be received at the Town Office or via email (general@smithers.ca) by 1:00 pm on Monday March 12th, 2018 to be considered by Council.

Smithers Town Council will consider Development Variance Permit (DV18-02) application for the property located at 4034 Mountainview Drive on Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 beginning at 6:30 pm in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, BC.

North West Community College (NWCC) has applied to the Town of Smithers for a 3-year temporary use permit to setup a camp-style temporary student housing facility at 4034 Mountainview Drive. Concurrently, NWCC has requested Council waive the construction of a 1.5 m minimum concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter, and boulevard landscaping along Mountainview Drive frontage.

Anyone who believes they will be affected by the proposed permit is invited to submit verbal comments to Council at the March 13th meeting. To be considered by Council written submissions must be received by 1:00 pm on Monday March 12th, 2018.

Smithers Town Council will consider Development Variance Permit (DV18-01) application for the property located at 3873 Fourth Avenue on Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 beginning at 6:30 pm in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, BC.

North West Community College is pursuing a Temporary Use Permit to intall a modular student housing facility at 3873 Fourth Avenue. Due to the temporary nature of the facility, NWCC is concurrently requesting Council waive the required construction of a minimum 1.5 m red-brick sidewalk along the property’s Fourth Avenue frontage, and the paving of the rear lane.

Anyone who believes they will be affected by the proposed permit is invited to submit verbal comments to Council at the March 13th meeting. To be considered by Council written submissions must be received by 1:00 pm on Monday March 12th, 2018.

Smithers Town Council will consider Development Variance Permit (DV17-04) application for the property located at #29 Starliter Way – 7671 Highway 16 on Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 beginning at 6:30 pm in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, BC.

The applicant is requesting Council vary Section 4.7.2 of the Zoning Bylaw No. 1403 by reducing the front yard setback for an R-1 zone from 6.0 metres to 4.03 metres and the rear yard setback from 6.0 metres to 4.53 metres.

2018 Council Schedule

Public notice is hereby given by the Town of Smithers, pursuant to Section 127 of the Community Charter, of Regular Council meeting dates and times for the year 2018.

Regular Council meetings are held every second and fourth Tuesday of the month, with some exceptions:

  • There will only be one Council meeting in September, occurring on the fourth Tuesday.
  • There will only be one Council meeting in October, occurring on the second Tuesday.
  • There will only be one Council meeting in December, occurring on the second Tuesday.

Regular Council meetings will commence at 6:30 pm at the Smithers Town Office, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers BC.

The Inaugural Meeting of Council will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at 6:30 pm at the Smithers Town Office, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers BC.
