2018 Tax Sale Notice

Notice is hereby given that the following properties will be offered for sale, pursuant to Section 647 of the Local Government Act, by public auction at 10:00 a.m. Monday September 24th, 2018 in the Council Chambers, at the Town of Smithers Office, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, B.C. unless delinquent taxes, plus accrued interest, are paid before the tax sale.


The lowest amount that any of the above noted properties may be sold for is the upset price, which is the accumulative total of delinquent, arrears, current taxes, penalties, interest, and applicable fees. The highest bid above the upset price will be accepted. Successful bidders at the tax sale must pay to the Town of Smithers the bid amount, by Interac or bank draft, prior to 3:00 p.m. on the day of the sale. The properties will be sold on an “as is, where is” basis. The Town of Smithers is not responsible for the condition of any of the properties listed.

Purchasers of tax sale property should note that the sale is not final, as the property is subject to redemption by the owner(s) until September 24, 2019. If the owner redeems the property, the tax sale purchase price, plus interest, will be returned to the purchaser.

The Meadows


The Meadows has 14 single bedroom units that are all self contained and wheelchair accessible. Two units are specifically designated as handicapped and have modifications to accommodate someone in a wheelchair.

The Smithers Community Services manages the building, and the provision of hospitality services which include social and recreation activities, meals, emergency response service, and housekeeping and laundry.

Northern Health Authority is responsible for the personal care aspect of the program, and BC Housing provides funding, monitoring of the society, and standards of care.

Bylaw No. 1842 Zoning Bylaw Amendment to rezone 3832 Seventh Avenue from Public Amenity (P-1) to Public Utility (P-1A).

Subject Property:  Lots 12, 13 and 14, Block 143, Plan 1054, located directly behind and to the east of the Smithers Fire Hall.

Purpose:  To correctly zone the property designated for the construction of the Fire Department Storage Building.

The proposed bylaws and relevant background information can be viewed at the Town Office, 1027 Aldous Street, Monday through Friday (except holidays), 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

2018 Council Schedule

Public notice is hereby given by the Town of Smithers, pursuant to Section 127 of the Community Charter, of Regular Council meeting dates and times for the year 2018.

Regular Council meetings are held every second and fourth Tuesday of the month, with some exceptions:

  • There will only be one Council meeting in September, occurring on the fourth Tuesday.
  • There will only be one Council meeting in October, occurring on the second Tuesday.
  • There will only be one Council meeting in December, occurring on the second Tuesday.

Regular Council meetings will commence at 6:30 pm at the Smithers Town Office, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers BC.

The Inaugural Meeting of Council will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at 6:30 pm at the Smithers Town Office, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers BC.
