Public Hearing Notice: Zoning Amendment Application R20-05
A Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021 at 6:30 pm, electronically via Zoom and Facebook to consider the following bylaw:
Bylaw No. 1902: To amend Town of Smithers Zoning Bylaw No. 1403 by adding ‘crematorium’ to the list of principal uses permitted in the M-2 Medium Industrial and M-3 Heavy Industrial zones, subject to the following minimum set back requirements: i) 70 metres from all Residential zones, P-2, P-3, and P-4 zones and ii) 30 metres from any Commercial zone.
The Applicant intends to establish a crematorium business in the Bulkley Valley. Currently, ‘crematorium’ is not a permitted use within the Town boundaries. Approval of this amendment will allow the Applicant to secure lands within the Town for a crematorium development, subject to the distance-related conditions that form part of the proposed bylaw amendment.
This Public Hearing intends to address technical issues in the proposed bylaw that were identified after the first Public Hearing held on February 23rd, 2021.
Anyone who believes they will be affected by the proposed bylaw is invited to submit written submissions to Council for consideration at the Public Hearing. Written submissions to be included in the agenda at the Public Hearing must be received at the Town Office by 1:00 pm on Monday, April 12th, 2021. Attendance by Zoom is permitted; you must request the invitation link by emailing general@smithers.ca by 4:30 pm on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021. Attendance in person is currently not permitted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Public Health orders.
The proposed bylaw and relevant background information is available below or at the Town Office (1027 Aldous Street) Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Livestreaming is available on the Town of Smithers Facebook Page.
