The Town of Smithers advises the public that Regular Meetings of Council, as well as Committee Meetings, will remain in a virtual format until further notice. This decision was made to reduce risks of communicable disease transmission. The Town will continue to assess meeting formats as developments occur.

As of August 25, 2021, in conjunction with the Province of British Columbia's mandatory mask mandate:

The Town of Smithers will be conducting all Council meetings via Zoom. These meetings will be available to the public by broadcast in the Council Chambers at 1027 Aldous Street and livestreamed on Facebook. Thank you for your understanding.

If you wish to speak to an item on the Regular Meeting of Council agenda, you may do so via Zoom, during the Public Comment Period at the beginning of the meeting for a maximum of three minutes. Please contact Duncan Malkinson, Director of Corporate Services, email: by 4:00 p.m the Monday before the meeting, to obtain a Zoom meeting link.

If you wish to be added as a Delegation, please fill out an application form and return by email to, or in person at Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street or by fax at 847-1601. You can also contact Corporate Services for assistance at 847-1600. Requests to appear as a Delegation before Council must be received by Corporate Services by 4:30 p.m. of the Wednesday prior to the Council meeting.

Electronic Council Meetings and Public Participation

The December 2, 2020 Provincial Health Officer (PHO) Order on Gatherings and Events requires local governments to make some changes to how meetings and public hearings are currently conducted.

The public is now restricted from attending all local government meetings and public hearings in person.

If you would like to submit a question or comment to the Regular Meeting of Council, please submit your question by email no later than 6:00 p.m. to or by dropping of a letter to the front desk at Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street no later than 4:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting. Your questions and comments will be read out loud at the meeting.

2022 Council Schedule:


Public notice is hereby given by the Town of Smithers, pursuant to Section 127 of the Community Charter, of Regular Council meeting dates and times for the year 2022.

Regular Council meetings are held every second and fourth Tuesday of the month, with some exceptions:

  • There will only be one Council meeting in September, occurring on the fourth Tuesday.
  • There will only be one Council meeting in October, occurring on the second Tuesday.
  • There will only be one Council meeting in December, occurring on the second Tuesday.

Regular Council meetings will commence at 6:30 pm at the Smithers Town Office, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers BC, and will be streaming on the Town of Smithers Facebook page:

The Meadows 

The Meadows has 14 single bedroom units that are all self contained and wheelchair accessible. Two units are specifically designated as handicapped and have modifications to accommodate someone in a wheelchair.

The Smithers Community Services manages the building, and the provision of hospitality services which include social and recreation activities, meals, emergency response service, and housekeeping and laundry.

Northern Health Authority is responsible for the personal care aspect of the program, and BC Housing provides funding, monitoring of the society, and standards of care.
