South Storm Trunk 2010-04 Contract Update

The South Storm Trunk project is in full construction mode. To date the contractor has installed over 100 meters of the main line as well as made preparations for the next 100 meters. There have been some delays so far and the Contactor, Western Industrial Contractors Ltd, has been working hard to keep the project moving forward. A very dry summer so far has helped the project as the ground is dry and the water table in the area is low. Excavators, trucks, compactors, a crane, and labourers are active at the site. To date there have been very minor disruptions to traffic or the traveling public. As the project moves forward the public is asked to obey traffic controllers and traffic warning signs. As the project moves to the North side of highway 16 along the frontage road traffic disruptions and delays are expected.

Attached are two maps. One map showing the extent of the project for this year and the other showing future phases and the drainage area expected to benefit from the new storm trunk.

Additional information can be obtained by contacting Rob Blackburn, Senior Engineering Technician for the Town of Smithers at 250-847-1600 or Paul Wellington, Project Manager with Dayton and Knight Ltd. at 250-847-1913-ext-114.

Riverside Municipal RV Park & Campground - Construction Delayed

We are improving the campground to serve you better.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We apologize to all of our annual visitors, to our new visitors, and for the inaccurate information in a few of the provincial tourist publications.

SHOWERS AND FLUSH TOILETS

We had anticipated construction of the new showers and flush toilets to be complete in early 2010. Engineering complications have delayed the construction, which we now anticipate will occur in the fall of 2010.

PLAYGROUND

The playground equipment was removed November 2009, for two reasons: 1) the equipment was old, unsafe and did not meet Canadian standards; and 2) the equipment was required to be removed in preparation for the construction of the new showers and flush toilets.

New playground equipment was to be installed by Summer 2010, but due to the delays in constructing the new showers and flush toilets, the brand new playground equipment will now be installed by June 2011.
