The Town of Smithers has an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced Director of Finance to join the Executive Management Team.

Surrounded by mountain ranges, Smithers is a northern gem, nestled at the base of Hudson Bay Mountain. With a population of 5,400, it is a service hub for a surrounding region comprising a population of approximately 15,000.

Residents enjoy four seasons of recreational activities; in addition to a ski hill within a half hour of town, the region offers world-class fishing, backcountry and cross-country skiing, hunting, golfing and alpine trails for hiking or horseback riding.

Smithers offers many services and amenities normally only found in larger urban centres, including an airport, community college, Nordic centre and two ice arenas while maintaining affordable real estate.

The Director of Finance position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and is responsible for the overall direction and control of the accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, financial forecasting, investing, revenue collections, property taxation, payroll and expenditure control functions of the Town.

The ideal candidate will have a professional accounting designation and be a member in good standing with CPA Canada, thorough knowledge of Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards, the Local Government Act and the Community Charter, a minimum five years experience within municipal financial administration, and at least 5 years management experience in Local Government.
