News Release #2021-10 Information Bulletin: Open Fire Ban Lifted
Effective as of 12:00 noon, Wednesday July 28th, 2021 until further notice, open fires within the municipality of Smithers are permitted.
Although fire danger ratings have declined due to recent rainfall and cooler temperatures, the public is strongly encouraged to remain vigilant and exercise extreme caution with their use of open fires.
The campfire prohibition has also been lifted in the Northwest and Prince George Fire Centers; however, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited, which includes the use of fireworks and sky lanterns. These restrictions will remain in place until October 15th, 2021, or until the order is rescinded.
A poster explaining the different categories of open burning and applicable regulations is available online at www.gov.bc.ca/openfireregs.
