The Town of Smithers is looking for a dedicated leader to oversee operations, staff, and development at the Smithers Regional Airport. This is a full-time, exempt position.


POSITION TITLE:    Airport Manager
DEPARTMENT:         Airport
HOURS OF WORK:   Salary position, requiring hours as needed and including, but
not limited to, 35 hours per week and attendance at Council and
Committe meetings, as requested by the Chief
Administrative Officer.
POSTING DATE:       March 13, 2025

ANNUAL SALARY:   $110,421.15 -$120,937.45 (commensurate with experience)

Surrounded by mountain ranges and beautiful lakes and rivers, Smithers is well known as a northern gem. The town has a population of around 5,400 and is a service hub for the surrounding region comprised of approximately 15,000 people. Residents enjoy four seasons of recreational activities: including a ski hill within half an hour of town, world-class fishing, backcountry and cross-country skiing, hunting, golfing and alpine trails for hiking and horseback riding, along with a lively music scene, boutique shopping, an art gallery and museum, an aquatic centre, and numerous family-friendly activities. 

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Airport Manager is responsible for the management of airport operations and staff, and the overall development and maintenance of the Smithers Regional Airport. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will participate in the overall planning, administration and management of the Town as it relates to the Airport. The Airport Manager is also a member of the Town’s Emergency Management Team in the event that an Emergency Operation Centre is activated. This is a unique opportunity for a committed professional to play a pivotal role in enhancing community connectivity and advancing operational excellence for the Smithers Regional Airport.

Essential Qualifications Include:
• A degree in Business, Business Administration, Aviation Management, or other related areas of study (preferred).
• A minimum of five years’ aviation management experience or leadership/supervisory experience within a municipal setting (preferred).
• Some experience managing or working with heavy equipment operations, fleet management, fuel management, and grounds maintenance.
