WAGE:                        $90,000 - $100,000 Annually

The Town of Smithers has an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Director of Operations to help lead the Operations Department.  This is a full-time, exempt position.

Surrounded by mountain ranges, Smithers is a northern gem, nestled at the base of Hudson Bay Mountain. With a population of 5,400, it is a service hub for a surrounding region comprising of a population of approximately 15,000.

Residents enjoy four seasons of recreational activities; in addition to a ski hill within a half an hour of town, the region offers world-class fishing, backcountry and cross-country skiing, hunting, golfing and alpine trails for hiking and horseback riding coupled with a lively music scene, Art Gallery, Museum, theatrical performances, and an energetic sporting community.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Deputy Director of Operations is responsible for assisting with the planning, organization, and direction of operational and maintenance activities related to wastewater treatment and collection, water treatment and distribution, street, sidewalks, parks, arenas, garbage collection, and curbside recycling.

Essential Qualifications Include:

  • Technical trade post-secondary education OR diploma in Civil Engineering
  • EOCP Level I or II in water distribution and wastewater collection
  • Level I First Aid with CPR
  • Valid class 5 BC Drivers’ License

Desirable Certifications and Training Include:

  • Certified Public Works Supervisor Program
  • BC Environmental Operators Certification Program member
  • Confined space training
  • WorkSafeBC training
  • Public Administration Certification

The Town of Smithers offers a competitive salary ($90,000 - $100,000 annually) and an excellent benefits package. Compensation for this position will be commensurate with experience.
