The Town of Smithers is seeking part-time Skate Patrol Attendants from October 2022 to March 2023. Attendants will ensure a safe and enjoyable skating experience to the community during scheduled public skate times. Shifts are a minimum of 1.5 hours in length, are scheduled in advance and run weekly.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of age
  • Valid First Aid/AED/CPR Certificate (Level 1), or willingness to complete prior to program start date
  • Proficient and confident skater; must have own helmet and ice skates
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Comfortable working independently or without direct supervision

Duties and Responsibilities

Skate staff are tasked with on-ice patrol and safety intervention, as well as customer service and other related duties as required. Successful candidates must be comfortable with regular and consistent enforcement of program rules set out by the Town of Smithers, responding to any situations requiring staff intervention and documenting incidents and accidents. Term employees are also expected to establish and maintain good communications with Town of Smithers staff, the public, and to submit required documents upon request. All positions report to the Recreation Coordinator. Rate of pay is $18/hour.
