The Town of Smithers will be conducting the annual water main flushing program from Monday, May 5, to Friday, June 6, 2025.
A controlled amount of chlorine—up to 2 mg/L—will be added to the water system two weeks before flushing (around April 21 this year). While this amount is very low and safe to consume, we typically do not chlorinate the water, so the taste and odour may be more noticeable to some residents. You may detect this until approximately June 14, 2025.
What to Expect:
• Water may appear discoloured during flushing. Run your taps for a few minutes until it clears.
• If you notice a chlorine taste or odour, let the water sit uncovered for a short time or boil it for a few minutes.
• To prevent laundry staining, run taps before washing and avoid using chlorine bleach.
