Notice Public Hearing: Re-Zoning Application for 3879, 3887, and 3895 Alfred Avenue

At its Regular Meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, beginning at 6:30 pm, Smithers Town Council will hold a public hearing to consider the following bylaw:

Bylaw No. 1963: To amend the Town of Smithers Zoning Bylaw No. 1936, by changing the zoning designation of 3879, 3887, and 3895 Alfred Avenue, from ‘C-1A Downtown Commercial Zone’ to ‘CD-1 Comprehensive Development Zone 1’.

The proposed bylaw was initiated in response to the Zoning Amendment Application submitted by BC Housing, for 3879, 3887, and 3895 Alfred Avenue. The Applicant intends to purchase and redevelop the subject properties to build a 40-unit supportive housing development that will provide much-needed shelter for people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Adoption of the proposed zoning amendment bylaw will enable the proponent to proceed with the proposed development.

Anyone who believes they will be affected by the proposed bylaw is invited to attend the public hearing to make written or verbal submissions to Council for consideration. All written submissions must be received at the Town Office before 1:00 pm on Monday, February 12, 2024. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at the Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, BC, and Facebook livestreamed at: https://www.facebook.com/TownofSmithers. The proposed bylaw and relevant background information is available at the links below or at the Town Office (1027 Aldous Street) Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
