At its Regular Meeting on Tuesday, September 27th, 2022, beginning at 6:30 pm, Smithers Town Council will consider the Development Variance Permit Application DV22-08 for 3836 Fourth Avenue, legally described as Lot 1 Block 107 District Lot 865 Range 5 Coast District Plan BCP30282.
The subject property, which houses the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), has five existing business signs that are non-conforming in terms of the Town’s sign design standards. The applicant is seeking to replace the existing sign faces with new ones of similar size and material. Hence, the DVP application is requesting to vary the following sections of the Town of Smithers Bylaw No. 1841 Sign Bylaw:
- Section 7.1, to increase the number of permanent signs permitted per business frontage from two (2) to three (3);
- Section 7.11, to permit the use of white acrylic/plastic for making permanent signs; and
- Section 8.4 a), to increase the maximum size of fascia signs permitted from 18.3 m to 22.6 m.
Anyone who believes they will be affected by the proposed variance permit is invited to submit written comments regarding the subject application. All written submissions must be received at the Town Office before 1:00 pm on Monday, September 26th, 2022. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at the Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, BC and Facebook livestreamed at: https://www.facebook.com/Smithers.BritishColumbia/.
