Public Notice: Council Procedure Bylaw
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that under the Provisions of the Community Charter, the Council of the Town of Smithers will consider “Bylaw No. 1885 – Council Procedure” for readings at the Tuesday, May 11, 2021, Regular Meeting and consider Adoption at the Tuesday, May 25, 2021, Regular Meeting. Both meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, B.C.
“Bylaw No. 1885 – Council Procedure” proposes the following amendments:
1. General restructuring to include separate and distinct “Schedules”; now including the following:
Schedule A: Definitions
Schedule B: Council Meetings
Schedule C: Designation of Member to Act in Place of Mayor
Schedule D: Council Proceedings
Schedule E: Bylaws
Schedule F: Committee of the Whole
Schedule G: Committees
Schedule H: Conflict of Interest
2. Clarifying language has been added to all Sections as per the Community Charter and the Local Government Act.
3. Each schedule contains new and updated procedures and language. A comprehensive list of changes can be found on the Town website, http://www.smithers.ca.
The above is a synopsis of “Bylaw No. 1885 – Council Procedure and is not deemed to be an interpretation thereof. A copy of the bylaw referred to in the Public Notice may be inspected at the Town Office, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, B.C., during regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding statutory holidays.
