The Town of Smithers supports and encourages new businesses. In addition, the Town must also look after the health, safety and liability of the public. We hope that by explaining some of the issues and concerns in advance, we will be able to help you understand the process of applying for a business licence and be able to process your application quickly.
The Town of Smithers encourages all businesses to identify their business with appropriate signage. Businesses are also encouraged to incorporate elements of the Alpine Theme and Form and Character Development Permit Area Guidelines into the signage design.
The Liquor Control and Licensing Branch (LCLB) of the Provincial Government regulates Liquor Licensing in the Province, including the issuance of the Liquor Licenses. As part of the LCLB application process they require the input of the local government. This input must be in the form of a Local Government Resolution passed by Council and based on public input.
