Building Permits

***NOTE: The Town is currently utilizing building inspection services from the City of Terrace on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until mid-August. Please allow for ample lead time on permit applications and inspection appointments.

A building permit is required for all construction work. Examples include:

  • Building a house or garage.
  • Erecting a garden shed in your yard.
  • Installing a washroom.
  • Renovations or alterations to any building.

The following documents should be submitted when applying for a building permit:

  • A completed, signed, and dated Building Permit Application form.
  • Two sets of drawings/plans of the proposed work.
  • A site plan of the building lot. (If hand-drawn, these must be in ink.)

If you supply the appropriate and necessary information at the time of application, the Development Services Department will be able to quickly process your application and issue a permit. If you have any questions, please contact the department, as we would be happy to assist you.

Owner's Undertaking of Building Foundation Form M

Anyone building a new home must contact the Homeowner Protection Office (HPO), phone: 604.646.7050 and complete a HPO Registration Form prior to the Town issuing a building permit.

Note: This process can take some time, so it is recommended that owners apply for HPO registration in the early stages of building their home.
