Smithers & Telkwa, B.C. — The Town of Smithers and the Village of Telkwa are partnering to host a series of Pre-Election Workshops this month to help prospective candidates and interested residents better understand local government leadership and prepare for the upcoming municipal elections.
Residents are encouraged to attend if they are considering running for mayor or council, or if they want to learn more about how local government works and how to make informed decisions as voters.
Facilitated by Christina Benty of Strategic Leadership Solutions Inc., the workshops will explore the roles and responsibilities of local government, elected councils, and local officials as well as how residents can be active contributors to decision-making and community building.
The sessions will cover the basics of local government, provide practical information for prospective candidates and voters, and give participants an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how local decisions are made. Engaged and informed communities are a cornerstone of strong local governments.
There will be two sessions, one in Smithers and one in Telkwa. Participants are encouraged to attend the workshop in their home community but are welcome to attend either session if it better fits their schedule. Both workshops will cover the same core information while including community-specific content relevant to Smithers or Telkwa.
