Town of Smithers Secures $500,000 Grant for Active Transportation Infrastructure

The Town of Smithers is pleased to announce the successful grant application for $500,000 in funding from the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Active Transportation Infrastructure program. This grant will facilitate the development of a multi-use pathway along the Fulton Ave right-of-way, spanning 1.8km from the Bulkley River bridge to the existing Fulton Ave multi-use pathway within the town. This will help connectivity within town, and will link to the Cycle 16 Trail, connecting all the way to Telkwa once fully completed.

Local consultants from WSP created the design of the pathway in 2023 and tenders for construction to start this spring are currently posted on BCBid.

The Province of BC announced that $24 million in the Spring 2024 funding intake is allocated to support 80 active transportation infrastructure projects in communities around British Columbia.
