Board of Variance - The Town of Smithers is currently seeking two interested individuals to serve on the Board of Variance. The Board of Variance functions independently from Town Council and is empowered to provide independent adjudication regarding appeals for minor variances to certain provisions of Town bylaws. Appeals to the Board are generally made by homeowners or developers when compliance with a Town bylaw would cause undue hardship to the applicant.

2. Accessibility Advisory Committee
The Council of the Town of Smithers invites applications from the public to fill ONE (1) vacancy on the Advisory Planning Commission (APC).
The Commission acts in an advisory capacity to Council on all planning-related matters referred to it, including land use, community planning, and proposed permits and bylaws.

3. Fall Fair Management Committee - Chair
The Council of the Town of Smithers invites applications from the public to fill ONE (1) vacancy to sit as the Chair of the Fall Fair Management Committee.
This is a Committee established by agreement between the Town of Smithers and the Bulkley Valley Agricultural and Industrial Association (BVAIA). The Committee makes recommendations to Council respecting any additions or improvements to the lands or the issuance of new licences in the Fall Fair Grounds. In addition, the Committee controls access to other licensed areas on the grounds and resolves conflicts between licensees over the non-exclusive use of any licensed area.
The role of the Committee Chair conducts meetings and provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to ensure the Committee adheres to the agreements.
