250-847-1600First elected to Town Council in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, Gladys moved to the role of Acting Mayor in 2019, and was elected as Mayor in 2020 and re-elected in 2022. Since 2019 she has represented Smithers on the Boards of the Bulkley Nechako Regional District and Northwest Regional Hospital District.
She is a lifelong Smithereen who’s career has been in tourism. She has served on many local, regional and provincial volunteer boards. Most recently she completed 4 years as Chair of the Northern BC Tourism Association and 19 years of board service.
Gladys is passionate about maintaining the beauty and unique qualities of our community and is committed to ensuring Smithers is accessible and inclusive community. A priority is maintaining respectful working relationships with local businesses, organizations and other orders of government as a means to creating solutions for local issues.
In her off hours, Gladys enjoys time outdoors, or in her extensive gardens and traveling with her partner.

250-847-0277John moved to Smithers in 1999 to become principal of Bulkley Valley Christian Elementary School. He was an educator/administrator until 2015, and then worked 7 years as a bookkeeper/tax preparer/payroll clerk at Todd Larson & Associates. In the fall of 2022, John returned to an administrative position at Bulkley Valley Christian School. John served on the Smithers Public Library Board for 2 years prior to being elected to Town Council in 2018, frequently held leadership positions at Smithers Christian Reformed Church, and also has worked and volunteered at Broadway Shelter.
During his first term on Town Council, John served on the Finance and Transit Committees, and was also the Town Council representative on the Library Board, the Pool Advisory Board, and Smithers Skate Park Society.
John and his wife Sylvia have developed a deep appreciation for Smithers and the Bulkley Valley. They love the natural beauty of the area, and the warmth and friendliness of the people who also call this place home. John and Sylvia treasure time with their 2 children and 6 grandchildren, and also enjoy kayaking, hiking, traveling, and spending time with close friends and out of town family.

Laura was newly elected to Town Council in 2022.
Laura was raised in Smithers. She left to attend post secondary school and returned in 1997. She currently holds a Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) Designation. Laura is a businesswoman and owns and operates a second generation business, All-West Glass. Laura has two daughters who were born and raised in Smithers, Olivia and Jenelle.
Community involvement is important to Laura and over the years she has been involved in several community organizations. She always lent a helping hand in her daughters’ sports and recreation clubs. She has also served as a Director on the BV Community Foundation and the BV Health Care & Hospital Foundation.

Genevieve Paterson is a fourth-generation public servant, with 15 years experience in public and community service. This includes extensive experience working with Indigenous, Federal, Provincial, and municipal governments, industry, stakeholders, and the public to manage traditional, social, cultural, economic, and environmental objectives.
Genevieve is originally from the Sunshine Coast, and lived in Victoria B.C. for a decade, before falling in love and settling down in the Bulkley Valley in 2010. Genevieve studied Business and Human Resource Management at Thompson River University.
When not working for the Province of B.C., behind the Council table, or volunteering in her community, Genevieve can be found in the backcountry, exploring the North, or in her garden.
