At its Regular Meeting on March 25, 2025, Regular meeting, beginning at 6:30 pm in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall, Council will consider the Development Variance Permit (DVP) application DV25-01 for 1685 Main Street. 

The Applicant’s proposal is to replace the existing shed on the property with a 2-storey auxiliary building, containing garage and storage area on the ground level and a carriage house dwelling unit on the upper level, to be accessed via the existing driveway off 12th Avenue. As the proposal does not align with the Town’s Zoning Bylaw Regulations in terms of height restrictions for auxiliary buildings and access/parking requirements for carriage houses, the Applicant’s request is to vary the following sections Town of Smithers Zoning Bylaw No. 1936, as part of constructing a 2-storey auxiliary building:

a) Section 2.4.3 (e), by permitting access from the existing driveway off 12th Avenue, even though the abutting lane is regularly maintained; and

b) Section 2.15.1 (e), by permitting a height of 5.7 metres, exceeding the principal building’s height by approximately 0.2m.

Anyone who believes they will be affected by the proposed variance permit is invited to submit written comments regarding the subject application. All written submissions must be received at the Town Office before 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025.
