At its Regular Meeting on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Smithers Town Council will hold a Public Hearing to consider the following bylaws:

  • Bylaw No. 2000, proposing to amend the Town of Smithers Official Community Plan (OCP) Bylaw No. 1935 by changing the land use designation of the subject area (see the subject property map below) from ‘Low Density Residential ‘/ ‘Parks, Open Spaces, and Trails’ to ‘Institutional’.
  • Bylaw No. 2001, proposing to amend the Town of Smithers Zoning Bylaw No. 1987, by rezoning the subject area (see the subject property map below) from ‘LDR-1 Low Density Residential Zone’ to ‘P-2 Public Use Two Zone’.

Purpose: The Town of Smithers initiated the joint OCP-Zoning bylaw amendment application as part of the proposed 216-bed Long-Term Care & Assisted Living Facility to be built on the subject land.

Anyone who believes they will be affected by the proposed bylaws is invited to attend the public hearing to make written or verbal submissions to Council for consideration. All written submissions must be received at the Town Office before 1:00 pm on Monday, December 8, 2025. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at the Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, BC, and Facebook livestreamed at: https://www.facebook.com/Smithers.BritishColumbia/. The proposed bylaws and relevant background information is available online at www.smithers.ca or at the Town Office (1027 Aldous Street) Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
