At its Regular Meeting on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026, beginning at 6:30 pm, Smithers Town Council will hold a public hearing to consider the following bylaw.
Bylaw No. 2006: To amend the Town of Smithers Zoning Bylaw No. 1987 by amending the zoning designation of 3675 Alfred Avenue, from LDR-1 Low Density Residential to R-3 Medium Density Residential.
Purpose:The Applicant is proposing further development of the parcel by constructing a single-storey townhouse complex next to the existing building, in the rear yard, comprising three 1-bedroom dwelling units. Each unit will have an approximate footprint of 500 square feet (44.5 m²) and a private outdoor space of approximately 16.7 m². The current zoning designation of the property is Low Density Residential (LDR-1), which does not permit the proposed number of dwelling units. Therefore, the Applicant is requesting an amendment to the Town of Smithers Zoning Bylaw No. 1987 to change the zoning designation of the subject property from LDR-1 to R-3 Medium Density Residential Zone
Anyone who believes they will be affected by the proposed bylaw is invited to attend the public hearing are to make written or verbal submissions to Council for consideration. Written submissions to be included on the Public Hearing agenda must be received either via email at general@smithers.ca, or mail / hand delivered to the Town Office by 1:00 pm on Monday, April 27, 2026. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at the Town Hall, 1027 Aldous Street, Smithers, BC, and Facebook livestreamed at: https://www.facebook.com/TownofSmithers.
